London for the bank holiday weekend

Posted by Martyn

Sunday morning I travelled to London to spend time with one of my friends Melanie meet her fiancé Mike. I set off at 8am to find out that the train had been delayed 40 minutes due to rail works but soon I was sat in the corner with my feet up playing on my DS while listening to the Fray, that was until we hit Reading and things got a little busier. Upon my arrival I was met but a very distant Melanie who seemed to be looking right through me and the oncoming people hurrying off the train. After our we greeted each other Melanie handed me a day tube pass, she had very kindly bought for me so I never had to queue and we were off back to her flat in St James Wood.

When we finally got there I was introduced to her sister Nemo (Naomi) and her fiancé Mike. After a spot of tea we went for a lovely walk and catch up along the Regents canal and into Camden Lock where I had Sushi for the first time. I am not sure it was something I would become a fan of but it was interesting to find out what everyone was craving. The place was nice and had holes in the floor where tables emerged and you sat on the floor on a cushion with your legs hanging down the floor. It was strange but kinda cool.
After that we travelled trough London to Big Ben and the London Eye to meet Mike who was at home working. Melanie had bought me tickets to travel on the eye and get a bird’s eye view of London. I don’t like heights much but I was pretty much fine on the eye and enjoyed looking over London and seeing Wembley from afar.

Later we went to China Town and had a fantastic meal before heading to the bus stop. I did have to stop at Piccadilly Circus to see the billboard which was showing Coke football league teams so I had to wait until Bristol City was showing across London and get a quick snap.

As I have been to London I wasn’t interested in looking at the usual stuff but what we did see was new and refreshing.

The next day Melanie took me to see the new Wembley but it was pouring with rain so we never stayed long. In the afternoon we travelled to the everyman cinema in Hampstead which I think is now the best cinema I have ever been to. For those of you who do not know it, it has single and double sofa’s instead of chairs and each chair shares a table which you can put your beer, wine, chocolates etc. It also has a place underneath to hold a wine bottle. The cinema only holds around 100 people but there is loads of room, there is also a button to call for table service.

It really was a fantastic weekend and I am grateful to Melanie and Mike for letting me stay. It was a shame that I was unable to see Jenna being so close to her flat but the weekend was fantastic and I can’t wait to travel back.
