Weekend update

Posted by Martyn

Another weekend pasted and again my stomach pains have started again. I have no idea what has brought this on as I still have cut out alcohol, spicy foods and cut down on caffeine but today seems to be particularly bad. I will give football a miss tonight as running seems to make it more painful at the moment.
Most of my Christmas shopping has now been done just wrapping and cards to be written and sent out.

One good thing is I am getting back into going to the gym and I am nearly back on track again and close to the weight I was lifting before. One of the personal trainers gave me some advice which was helpful I still panicking using certain free weights as I don’t want to dislocate my now weak shoulder again.

Hospital Update

Posted by Martyn

Just a quick update to let you all know that I have been to the hospital and basically they have just told me what the doctors have, not spicy foods and drink etc etc I have to wait 6-8 Weeks to have the gastroenterology camera.

She told me that this could go away eventually but until they put the camera down they won’t know for sure but there is nothing they can operate on. Worst case would have to stop everything that causes the pain the working out exactly what foods and drinks they are.

I am currently off work this week getting Christmas shopping done and spending more time at the gym.

Back to Normal at last

Posted by Martyn

After now creating my new blog and adding 3 posts on there (ok two were already written) I am going to try harder to post more about my day to day life no matter how short and so Cait has something to read lol
Well I am back full time now at the gym that’s 3-4 times a week, I have been mega lazy lately and just crashing out when I get home by watching films or playing on my xbox.
I went in last night to find it was really busy and they had changed all the machines around which I am undecided if it’s better or now because some of the equipment means you are facing other people so you have to see everyone’s work out face and even worse they can see you ;)

I haven’t been swimming for ages now which is silly because that would have been better for my shoulder then going straight back into weights. Problem is I am still finding a couple of the workouts hard to get back into and up back to the weight I used to lift. One of the main ones being the bench press which I have dramatically reduced the weight and I feel nervous going back on it and tend to use it when no one is around. I don’t know if it’s subconsciously me wondering about my shoulder or because I still have this pain on my left rib when lying straight on a bench.

I have been to see my sister a bit over the past week even though every time I go around she gets me working on something but it’s nice to see her and the Cat plus I really like what they have done to their home and only wish I am lucky enough to own something like that in the future.

I am undecided whether or not to get back into running or not. I did really enjoy running for the Bristol Half and if I was to start running again I would not travel as far because of my knee but it might help it a bit and would be wonders for my fitness and football on a Monday night.

Life Update!

Posted by Martyn

Well hello there everyone, bet you are wondering where I have been to??
My workload has been a lot of late apart from that it’s been the same week in and out. I am back to the gym after 2 ½ months of being off because of my dislocated shoulder. I was ill on top of that for 3 weeks but seem to be over the worst of it.
The gym has been really hard to get back into, I have had to drop the amount of weights I lift by quite a lot A. because it’s been a while and my muscles are not what it’s used to and B. because I dislocated my shoulder I have to watch everything I lift for a while.
My stomach is still bad and I will be off to the hospital on the 28th of this month. I have just ran out of the tablets I am on and now my stomach is starting to hurt again. While on the tablets I forgot all about the pain but I guess it proves they work.
I have not had any alcohol for nearly 3 months and also no spicy food. I still have tea but have stopped drinking coke and coffee.
The hospital appointment is just a consultation and it looks like I may have to wait until after New Years to have a camera down my throat which means no drinking over the xmas period. Great huh? This however means I can save a bit more money to buy xmas presents or at least that’s the idea!
On another note I have just bought Guitar Hero for the 360 after laying it around my mates house and I am addicted!

Quick Update

Posted by Martyn

Well good day bad day, for those who know I went to Wembley on Wednesday to watch my first England match, I have added some pictures in a new folder. The stadium was amazing and the game was just as good with England winning 3-0 and Owen scoring again.
Yesterday I went back to the doctors to find out about my blood tests and everything was ok which means I now move onto the next stage which is to have a camera stuck down my throat into my stomach. If the option of being under general anaesthetic comes up I will be taking it.
Although I am driving again my arm still is very sore and hurts to move, I really want to go back to the gym but when I do go back I really will have to take care.

Injury prone

Posted by Martyn

This should make you laugh, seems like being fit and heath these days means nothing. On Sunday morning I went to the gym as normal and while lifting on an incline bench of 50% my left arm locked causing the weight to drop, my choices where A) let go and let 20kg come crashing down on my head, B) let the weight fall to my left and snap my arm or the path I took was C) let it fall to my right, this caused my shoulder to dislocate from its socket. Luckily it did pop back in but I had to go and wait 3 ½ hours in A&E to have it looked at and x-rayed. I was given the choice to have it in a sling, a choice I should have taken. On top of that after dinner yesterday my stomach kicked off again causing double pain and made it hard to sleep.

Stomach Pains Update

Posted by Martyn

So last Wednesday I doubled up in pain after feeling fine when I awoke. The pain was worse then last time and while I was on my medication. This has never happened before so on Thursday I made another appointment to see the doctors. This time I had another doctor who took some tests then took some blood to check for everything including my kidney and liver. As well as Stomach acid problems and ulcers they have now added the possibility of gallstones. I go back in next Thursday to get my results and then they will talk about having a camera shoved down my stomach.
From Friday I have not been allowed to drink any alcohol, no caffeine and no spicy foods until they get to the route of the problem.

Bristol City VS Man City

Posted by Martyn

Ok being a Man Utd fan Man City is another team I despise but I have to hand it to Sven and the way he has changed the team around. If Sven had not taken over as manager I seriously think that we could have given MC more of a run for their money but as it happened the x-England boss brought his team of millionaires to Ashton Gate to play in the 2nd round of the Carling Cup.
It’s always nice to watch premiership team’s play live and Man City were no acceptation. They were fast on the break and their passing was quick and on target. It made it enjoyable to watch as their little flicks and dribbles were pin point and the ease of which they seemed to get past some of our midfield was a joy to watch.
In the first half they brought that game to us and after 10 minutes looked like they were in complete control. Bristol City held their end and after MC’s 16 minute goal by Mpenza the mighty reds heads never dropped. You could tell that we were up for this game and in the second half it was nice to see we stated to take control of the match and brought the game to MC more. After a couple of close missed from MC and us (Trundle very unlucky) our equaliser came from defender Bradley Orr in the 68th minute. Funny thing was Bradley seemed to be the weak link of the game up until that point and fans around us were not happy with him………well until he scored anyway.
After the goal MC came back at us more but we still looked the better side until a moment of weak defending gave Bianchi the opportunity to go 1-2 ahead.
I can’t knock Man City they played like you expect a team worth 10x+ more then us to do well and I said before had that I though we would lose 1-2. But I am very pleased with the boys and how well they played. Now lets make sure Shedd Wed keep up their losing streak this Saturday.

Blackpool Away

Posted by Martyn

For the weekend me and my mate Mark headed up to Blackpool for the weekend to watch the football and have a few drinks. Before the weekend I had never stepped foot in Blackpool before but it was not how I imagined it and somewhere I wouldn’t go on holiday to. I can understand why there are so many stag and hen parties because of the amount of clubs and pubs but after going in a few bars I didn’t even think much of them either.
Anyway, we travelled up at 7am in the morning and traffic was so good that we made it there by 10ish. The weather was shit and it was pouring down with rain. After checking in we dumped our stuff and headed into town to get some money and food.
At 1pm we went into a bar called the Manchester which was over run with Bristol City fans and every so often they would play the wurzels which would start football chants and singing around the bar. Mine and my sisters friend Helen managed to pop over for a quick drink before the match and drop us at the ground. I say ground but I was quite surprised to see only two sides, a temporary stand for the away support (Uncovered) and a car park. As we walked through the turnstiles there was not even tarmac to stand on but very wet and messy sand.
The game itself wasn’t how I imagined things going and I thought that they looked the better side. Lee Trundle kept getting fowled and I don’t know why Jevons did not start the match as Showunmi did not look good enough as he kept losing the ball and despite his height he hardly won any balls in the air.
In the second half Blackpool went ahead in the 52nd minute and it wasn’t until then that we started playing. Jevons and Murry came on and we looked stronger. It was not until the 75th Minute when we were saved by Murry’s 2nd goal of the season which ended the game at 1-1 which IMO was a fair result. We stay at home to Scunthorpe next weekend in a game we need to win.

After the match we went back to the B&B to relax and take a shower before heading out to a few bars. Before we went out we found a Chinese restaurant which was ok but dead before moving to the Walkabout across the road. The nightlife in Blackpool is different and I found some of the places either too busy or empty. We met up with three guys who sit by us and I am glad we did as they were very funny and it gave me a chance to see what they were really like as my opinion of them at the City ground wasn’t great. But I am glad I could see a different side to them which will make me more talkative to them at matches. We ended in Reflex which I have always enjoyed in Bristol but the one in Blackpool was to say it nicely Shit! The night out in Blackpool was ok but I won’t be rushing back anytime soon.
We decided in the morning to drive home early to get back to Bristol to watch the two matches in the local.

Stomach pains Cont.

Posted by Martyn

Bristol City gets Man City in the Carling cup at home in a couple of weeks which means that Sven comes to Bristol!! Should be very interesting indeed! I am off to Blackpool tomorrow to watch the football and have a few beers but more about that later.
Some of you know that I have been having pains in my stomach since early on in the year; the pain is in the middle and just below my ribs. The pain I get is a burning sensation and sometimes can be quite sharp. The pain itself comes mostly at night time and sometimes keeps me from having a full nights sleep. This used to only occur after hot and spicy foods or once every 1-2 weeks but this week it seems to be more regular.

I am now on my 4th dose of the same tablets I have been taken which last about a month and seem to stop the pain but this week things have been different.
I have been to the docs a few times but the last time they seem to check more and ask more questions. I had to give a sample which came back negative which I assume they were checking for cancer in my stomach. They also said that they would put a camera inside me but have since taken that back.

What they are now suggesting I do before they take more tests is to finish the course of tablets then cut down my alcohol to a maximum of a pint if I am drinking (great huh) and stop eating spicy foods and cola and cut down on tea and coffee or drink decaf (ewwww) and if the pain is still there then I have to go back and have more tests. If the pain isn’t there I guess they will have to talk to me about the foods and drink I can eat.
I have also had to give up blackthorn as I find it to acidic and it even hurts to drink.

I am hoping I don’t have to deal with the pain this weekend as I will be out drinking.

Football and Life

Posted by Martyn

Woohoo football is back!
Saturday we had the pleasure of working our way down to the City ground through piles of traffic because of the match and Bristol balloon fiesta. Lucky Mark had managed to get a ticket to park in the ground otherwise it would have been a nightmare finding a space.
The atmosphere of Ashton Gate was fantastic at first; you could tell that it was the start of the football season in a new league. Both sets of fans were singing and cheering with some friendly and unfriendly banter.
The game itself was flowing in the first half all new players seemed to be performing up to scratch and some nice football was played by both teams. It was not until the 33rd minute that a goal came from midfielder Lee Johnson but celebrations were very short lived as 60 seconds later QPR equalised making it 1-1.
The first half IMO was better then the second as again the football in the second half turned to over the top in the air passes.
Our keeper Basso was replaced as he picked up an injury after QPR scored and he was replaced by Henderson.
I would say that QPR were more over us in the second half managing to hit the post and crossbar and giving us quite a few scares and it was not until the 90th minute when sub Scott Murry scored a wonder goal from 30 yards but like before this was unfortunately short lived as QPR once again scored an equaliser from a free kick on the edge of the box which I would like to see again as I do not think it should have been given.

Sunday after going to the gym I went straight up to the pub to watch Chelsea beat Birmingham and Manchester United draw with Reading.

On a separate note I would like to add in my blog that unfortunately a colleague and friend passed away on Friday night in a car accident. My thoughts go out to his family and two boys. Rest in Peace Chris Wheildon.

Catch Up

Posted by Martyn

Well that was a quick break from football as tomorrow its back so I thought I would spend the whole weekend watching it. Tomorrow the Championship welcomes Bristol City kicking off against QPR at home. We believe this to be a sell out game and with the Bristol Balloon festival the traffic will be heavy. Manchester United kicks off against reading after beating Chelsea last weekend on penalties.
My xbox has finally returned to me but the weather is too hot to be stuck indoors.

Ok here is a question to put out there. I am looking to buy a laptop in the next month and have been looking at Acer. Does anyone know anything about this company and its products? Failing that I will be getting a Sony one.

Most of my time lately has been up the gym or in the local pub. The surf down south has been crap so we have not been surfing this year so far. BooHoo :-(
I have no holidays planned but I will be going to Blackpool next weekend to watch the football and stay overnight.

Anyway that is all I can think of right now, it’s a nice sunny day and I am stuck in work looking out of a window. I have the football in the car so at lunch I might have a kick around on the field.

Quiet weekend down south!

Posted by Martyn

Not much of a busy weekend this one. With Jenna seeing her family in Italy I decided to get away from everything in Bristol and head to see my Grandparents in Beer Devon. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go but once I called up and said that I might go visit my Nan sounded so pleased and happy telling me she would get me a steak for lunch for Sunday that how could I turn her down.
Sooo around 3pm once I had gone round my Aunties and Uncles to feed their fish and water their garden I set off and joined a pile of traffic which was a nightmare. A 1 ½ hour journey took nearly 3 hours but I did have fun on the way with these two guys in a Seat Leon dodging in and out of traffic.
When I got down there, there isn’t much to do apart from admire the view as it was pouring with rain.
Sunday was a better day with the sun shining I walked down to the beach and got some sweets just like I remembered doing as a child. My grandparents have a static caravan on a cliff face and the view is really breathtaking.
I have been visiting there all my life and it was nice to spend some time with them and I think they really enjoyed my company. Most of Sunday I sat in their garden or on the bench reading while looking out to sea. Normally it’s a place where you can get away from noise but this weekend was full with families which meant screaming kids.
The drive back I also hit traffic but once I got home I decided to go to the gym for a couple of hours and started chatting to once of my friends who goes there regularly.

Quick Life Update

Posted by Martyn

Hello guys

Sorry I have not made a blog in a while but I have been busier at work and now I am 100% healthy (apart from my knee still) I am back at the Gym a lot. As some of you might have already know I am now in a relationship. This is only a recent change and it’s a good friend who turned into more. It was weird how it happened, Jenna was always there for advice and it was never planned to turn into more but it has and everything is going well. Most of you know about the relationship.

I have not really been up to anything new so this blog will have to be short and sweet. I am now waiting for the next Harry Potter book to arrive tomorrow then I will be back in London on Thursday night, so I have 5 days to finish it.

Have a great weekend everyone, I will try and get around to commenting on your pages.

London Vol.2

Posted by Martyn

A while ago I planned another trip up to London, I wanted to go back and visit Melanie and Mike again as I really feel that I should get to see them more and the fact that I really like spending time in London. So much that I have even bought an Oyster card so I can travel around cheaper every time I visit.

Melanie and Mike were very kind taking me out to eat all the time and refusing to let me pay for anything. There was not much sight seeing and I tended to stay local. I did however manage to visit the apple store to get an iPod shuffle for the gym and have a drink in the Cheers bar. Also as I was in London had now had time to spare I decided that I would take this opportunity to meet a couple of friends I have been chatting to for a while and I knew I could meet up with without any problems. Char was unfortunately busy on the Saturday and Sunday morning her credit ran out which is a shame because I think it would have been a good laugh as we have the same taste in comedy and music and when I say same taste I mean same taste. The other person I did go out for a few drinks with was Susie. I briefly got to meet her son and his friend who were dashing around the house like crazy with a bouncy ball. After that we headed to a local quiet pub for a couple of drinks, but not much for me as I was driving. It is nice to meet genuinely nice people and get to know someone face to face as well as online. Char, next time I am in London I’ll steal those tickets off Melanie so we can go see Damien Rice lol
I never thought of taken any pictures even though I had my phone/camera with me which was a bit silly but maybe next time I am in London I will be able to go and see more.

This time I drove into London which was easier but a nightmare trying to find my way around. I think it’s time to invest in one of those sat nav systems.

Owen's 3rd Birthday Party

Posted by Martyn

Sooo a late one but the weekend! As Wednesday was Matt’s (Best Friend) Sisters (Kate, who cuts my hair) little boy’s (Owen) 3yr old birthday the weekend Matt’s parents arranged for a party. For the past 3 years we have always gone to his parties which are designed for both the kids and the adults who turn up. For the past two years we have had great weather but sods law this year it chose to rain….must be getting close to Glastonbury.

Anyhow, despite all the rain, it stopped around 2.30 which was just in time as the guy delivering the bouncy castle had just turned up. Me and Mark turned up to lend a hand with everything while drinking of course. Matt’s dad brought out some local home made cider which was around 6% and tasted very smooth with no bite.
Before all the kids turned up we decided to give the Bouncy Castle a test (you know, to make sure it was safe)
When Sam dropped off Matt’s niece (brother’s daughter) she did not want to play with the other kids so I kept her company watching CBeebies for a while and then helped her eat her ice cream, then for some reason I took over on the BBQ which seems to happen every year. I don’t know why but I always end up cooking!!!

After all the kids had gone we were back on the Bouncy Castle with Owen and then Kate’s friends also joined in. When everyone had gone home we tried to play Dirt on the Xbox while drinking Whiskey.

Sunday I woke up fine without a hangover at all, took my sister and he friend to the airport then went to the gym to start weight lifting again.

Work Night Out!

Posted by Martyn

Sorry it has been a while since writing any form of blog. My weekends have been boring of late as my ribs which I now believe to have been fractured has stopped me doing anything remotely fun. Anyhow I now feel millions better, although not 100% I did manage to go to the gym last night (First time in 3 weeks). It was hard work and all I was doing was light fitness. I did however try and lift some weights but the serge of pain to my left lung indicated that I will be forced to wait a while longer.

Friday was the first time I was back on the drink and 5 pints of Blackthorn was all it took to make me wake up with a thumping headache but then again I have never been able to get away from having a banging head while drinking Cider.
Next day I travelled to Reading to go out with work. Our group had won an award and as a result a meal and piss up sounded to be a great idea. All my colleagues work in Bracknell so Reading was the idea place to host it. I got to Reading at 5pm and went into my small room but with a fantastic power shower that would be a great place to have sex in.
I headed out at 7pm with my only other colleague who was staying at the hotel as he came from Birmingham. Matt could not make it unfortunately.

We all met at a Chinese all you can eat restaurant, 9 lads and 1 lady. The meal was great and drinks just kept appearing in front of me without even asking. After we headed to a pub for a couple more drinks but lost 3 people who went home when moving onto a club. The first club was playing R&B and was filled with younger people and what seemed to be Chavs. We never really stayed very long in there before moving onto Mangos which was playing Funky House and what sounded like D&B. The music here was good but the club itself was small and overpriced for it’s size, however we stayed in the beer garden drinking and soaking up the atmosphere.
The drink money lasted until 2.30 and it was then that we left to go home/back to the hotel. Not one of the greatest nights but you can not moan about a free night out.

Sunday I woke with no hangover which was surprising for the amount I had to drink.

My problems with your everyday driver

Posted by Martyn

Welcome to my list of annoying habits while driving and what I think raises the level of road rage on our roads today. I was going to put this in a separate blogs but why don’t I just put them all down.

- I’ll start off with drivers on the motorway who stay in the middle and fast lane even though they are not overtaking and you can not see another car in the slow lane for miles. I am so tempted to undertake these guys but most of the time I find myself moving around them by moving from the 1st lane to the 3rd then back to the first, look back and see if they got the message but they haven’t.
- Continuing from that we have lorry drivers who try to overtake in the fast lane of a dual carriageway but are in fact going 1mph faster then the other lorry they are overtaken. Even worse in wet weather as they chuck up so much water and crap into your windscreen that you can no longer see the road.
- People who do not stick to one speed. You know who you are! One minute you are going 70 the next you are going 55 then back up to 80mph. Who the fuck are these people? Why does anyone need to change speed unless they have to like there is another vehicle in front or a cat’s on the road?
- Tailgaters, A double one now is people who sit 2 inches from your bumper when you have a car in front of you so you can not go any faster and same again but without the car but when you move over to let them pass they only trickle past you then pull over in front of you doing the same speed. Why?
- Mr BMW drivers, you know you hate them! 90% of them don’t care you are in the road and I honestly believe that they can no longer see you are in fact there. They pull out in front of you, never thank you when you let them out, cut you up and all in all think they are better then you. You can also add in Mr Business and Mr Taxi man into this category
- Nervous drivers, you know the ones who take an age to pull out from a junction or wait at a roundabout for ages until they think it’s 100% safe to pull out.
- Drivers who signal you out without actually telling you. These people really do my head in, I have seen loads of them around, most people will flash their lights or make a hand gesture but every now and then some twat will just slow down and stare at you or even worse look at you so you think they are letting you out then drive on.
- Mr and Mrs Caution! The Slow drivers! I am all for driving at the designated speed but every now and then you normally find someone (I don’t want to name names but normally elderly drivers who need a cushion to see over the dashboard) who potter around 10 mph under the speed limit. These people need to be stopped! These people also break when there is no one in front of them!
- Boy Racers, now I don’t have so much beef with these guys as most of them can drive 10 times better then the average little old lady and half the time they are gone before you get time to get angry about the fact they have just overtaken you at twice your speed. But these drivers are annoying on your everyday roads because they tend to drive without a destination and you often see them at schools and pubs and parks again and again and again as they drive around in circles. They also tend to speed up while passing said spot!
- Girl Racer, sounds the same as the boy racers but tend to have a car packed with gobby girls who scream at you as they drive past wheel spinning out of control. These women (sorry girls) will also be on the phone and smoking at the same time.
- Mr and Mrs Rush, both come under the same category as they both are doing things while driving. Multi tasking I hear you cry and yes that is what they are doing, I have seen these people read papers, look at maps, chat on their phones, apply lipstick and makeup in the mirror in their sun visors or just in the rear view mirror, eating food and writing things down in a diary or fax!

I will leave you know with some self explanatory ones

- Drivers who take up more then one parking spot (says it all really)
- Drivers who leave their trolleys next to your car, 10x worse if it’s a sunny day
- Drivers who take an age to reverse park
- Drivers who lane hop
- Drivers who leave their fog lamps on

Dangerous Drivers

- Drivers who have their boot wide open with items loosely shoved in the back
- Motorbike drivers who speed in-between traffic
- Drivers who brake late
- Drivers with parts hanging off their cars
- Lorry drivers who are smoking while carrying petrol

Now If you have any others I can comment on please do tell me, I am sure I have left loads out.

The most boring weekend

Posted by Martyn

So this no gym stuff and no alcohol is really becoming a shit! Now I have not been to the gym in two weeks and not had a single drop to drink in that same time. Friday I went out to the local to watch a better England match but because I wasn’t drinking I did not feel right and left the pub at 11:15 leaving the boys playing pool. The next day I managed to get up early and get to Ashton Gate to get a new season ticket for the City. Then I went home washed my car and popped up the pub for a quick um coke..blah! I did sunbath but fell asleep and got kinda burnt. Then I turned taxi driver for my sister dropping her and her friend into town for her birthday but if I was drinking I should have been tagging along. The rest of the night I spent watching Angel.

Sunday (today) was a lot worse, all my friends are busy and I did have other plans which got cancelled and they made other plans. So today I have spent in again and I have been bored shitless. I am even looking forward to going to work tomorrow.

I really hope my ribs heal quicker so I can get back to my normal life. For some reason I felt really alone today.

An evening with Vixen

Posted by Martyn

Well hello there. Sorry it has been a while since my last blog but I have not really done much as my chest has forced me to stay in and I can not drink while on codine.

I have also since been to the Doc’s about pains in my stomach which looks like its stomach acidgoing crazy and the pain I have in my knee since the marathon. I tell you it feels like I am falling apart. Sounds like all this fitness gets you nowhere but a nice body.

Anyway, I did go out last night with Cait (kate) who I have not seen since the beginning of the year. It was great to catch up and was only a spur of the moment thing when I told her yesterday morning that Tomb Raider Anniversary turned up for the PS2. As Cait is such a big fan of Lara and did not yet have the game she wanted to know if it would work on her PS3 so I told her that I would pop round later after her auditions. Even though she had finished when I got there she decided that she would addition for two more parts but I did not mind waiting with her and even attempted to help her with her lines.
After a couple of hours we went back to hers and booted up the PS3 to find out that Tomb Raider did work and we then continued to discuss the changes from the very first game. We took a couple of pictures on her laptop before playing VF5 where she continued to kick my ass although I thought I did put up a good fight as I had never played the game before and did manage to beat her ass in two rounds without actually moving (she did not want the world to know this and also never told me the buttons).

After we played a little 'Super Rub A Dub' which you have to use the tilt feature of the pad to guide the ducks through the level and down the plug hole. She says It's not as easy as it sounds!! But that’s only because I was better at it then her ;)

We finished the night with a bit of double Zoo Keeper which was quite fun to watch Cait get stressed out buy it all. Thanks for a fun night and we will have to hang out more often.

Chest Pains (24/05/07)

Posted by Martyn

Sooo while playing football on Monday I accidentally got elbowed in the ribs as I ran in for the ball then 10 minutes later someone ran into me hitting me in the same spot. That night I was short of breath and in a lot of pain but decided against going to the hospital as I don't like wasting people's time. Next day after waking up in pain I went to work but decided to get an appointment at my local GP but unfortunately only could get the Dr. that no one else goes to as it was in short notice.
He said that something had inflamed under my muscle and was pushing on my ribs. While driving back to work I found it hard to drive and use my left arm.
After waking up a second day in pain yesterday I decided to get a second opinion so I went to the hospital A&E and had to wait 2 hours before a Dr. told me that they would not Xray me because if it was a fracture or bruise they couldn't do anything about it anyone. Due to my symptoms he stated that it was badly bruised or a slight fracture and said I need to rest for 3 – 7 weeks which involves not lifting or playing football for a minimum of 3 weeks. He gave me codeine which means I can not drink any alcohol while taking them.
Today I have decided against going to work as I am in discomfort and any bending, heavy breathing, laughing and coughing hurts not to mention that every time I sneeze I feel like my lung is about to explode.

London for the bank holiday weekend

Posted by Martyn

Sunday morning I travelled to London to spend time with one of my friends Melanie meet her fiancƩ Mike. I set off at 8am to find out that the train had been delayed 40 minutes due to rail works but soon I was sat in the corner with my feet up playing on my DS while listening to the Fray, that was until we hit Reading and things got a little busier. Upon my arrival I was met but a very distant Melanie who seemed to be looking right through me and the oncoming people hurrying off the train. After our we greeted each other Melanie handed me a day tube pass, she had very kindly bought for me so I never had to queue and we were off back to her flat in St James Wood.

When we finally got there I was introduced to her sister Nemo (Naomi) and her fiancƩ Mike. After a spot of tea we went for a lovely walk and catch up along the Regents canal and into Camden Lock where I had Sushi for the first time. I am not sure it was something I would become a fan of but it was interesting to find out what everyone was craving. The place was nice and had holes in the floor where tables emerged and you sat on the floor on a cushion with your legs hanging down the floor. It was strange but kinda cool.
After that we travelled trough London to Big Ben and the London Eye to meet Mike who was at home working. Melanie had bought me tickets to travel on the eye and get a bird’s eye view of London. I don’t like heights much but I was pretty much fine on the eye and enjoyed looking over London and seeing Wembley from afar.

Later we went to China Town and had a fantastic meal before heading to the bus stop. I did have to stop at Piccadilly Circus to see the billboard which was showing Coke football league teams so I had to wait until Bristol City was showing across London and get a quick snap.

As I have been to London I wasn’t interested in looking at the usual stuff but what we did see was new and refreshing.

The next day Melanie took me to see the new Wembley but it was pouring with rain so we never stayed long. In the afternoon we travelled to the everyman cinema in Hampstead which I think is now the best cinema I have ever been to. For those of you who do not know it, it has single and double sofa’s instead of chairs and each chair shares a table which you can put your beer, wine, chocolates etc. It also has a place underneath to hold a wine bottle. The cinema only holds around 100 people but there is loads of room, there is also a button to call for table service.

It really was a fantastic weekend and I am grateful to Melanie and Mike for letting me stay. It was a shame that I was unable to see Jenna being so close to her flat but the weekend was fantastic and I can’t wait to travel back.

Bristol City holds tight at 2nd to get automatic promotion

Posted by Martyn

The last day of the football leagues (Not Prem) was a tight rollercoaster. In our league Bristol City needed 3 points as Blackpool and Forest were close on our heels to clinch 2nd place and automatic promotion. In league 2 Bristol Rovers needed to win to keep themselves in the playoff places for a chance to go up into League one and they did that just 4 minutes from time.

My day started off at 1:20 outside a very packed Ship and Castle with City and Rotherham fans all standing drinking Natch and Carlsberg cheering on their teams and friendly banter. They were all such a nice lot and my mate Mark got chatty with some of them while I was listening to the Man Utd game on the radio. 2.40 and we were walking over to the ground, Man Utd had just one and the sun was still shinning. Everyone was given flags and people were buying Bristol City Promotion flags which I thought was a bit premature.
It was very tense knowing that this game was a must win game that would send us into Championship football next season and even though the stands were deafening and we were all over Rotherham I always thought that there was a chance we would slip up. Thank god for David Noble, the guy was a saint all the way through, we were 2-0 up at half time and won the game comfortably 3-1 sending us up and as soon as the final whistle went you know there was pitch invasion.

I did go down after a couple of minutes and tried to find my friend Kate but I could not hear her on the phone and finding her seemed an impossible task. I stayed as the players and manager made there speeches to the crowd and went back to the local pub to gloat to the Rovers fans.

Martyn on the Crane Fly aka Daddy longlegs

Posted by Martyn

Why do we have these things on gods green earth? I just witnessed one fly through the window straight into the door, into me, into the wall, into the light, into the ceiling then dive-bombed into the bath and died. Now why the fuck do these creatures exist? When you are asleep they fly around making the loudest noise ever, they must be the most annoying pointless things.

They always fly into you and walls, when they fly they look wrong! Watch them; they look like one of those spiders with long legs with wings on acid. It’s coming towards the time where you see loads of them around, they are also hard to catch and fly anywhere.

They live to mate and then they die once the become adults. Half the time you see them connected to each other having sex while tempting to fly; most of the time into an oncoming car! Then those who do survive end up waiting on walls and windows waiting to die. Then you look at your windowsill the next morning to find loads of them dead.

Jenna Cont.

Posted by Martyn

Jenna has awoken last night in pain and very disoriented, because her spleen has been removed she has to take drugs for the rest of her life. The guy who caused the accident will be arrested for dangers driving causing life threatening actions once he is better. She goes to theatre now to try and have her collar bone sorted.

God Bless her x

I was meant to have a job interview today but that has been put back a couple of weeks. Played football last night and won 3-2 but it was close match.

Weekend ends in tragedy

Posted by Martyn

What started off a great weekend has turned into a seriously bad one. Friday afternoon was good up the pub; we got chatting with some new people at the pub and had games of pool and darts all night. I had to look after my Best Mate who has just broken up from his GF of 2 ½ years, he is touch and go still but hanging in there.

Saturday I spent all day in the pub from the Man Utd match which put me in a great mood then City losing which evened me out a little. After 9 pints I went home and feel asleep.

Sunday I got up around 11am and went to the gym then sunbathed for a while before driving to the pub and sitting in the beer garden with friends but it wasn’t until the evening where one of my friends friend managed to get in contact with me to tell me that my friend Jenna has been in a serious car accident. She spent the day in Brighton with friends and was travelling back to her home in London when someone ran a red light and hit the side of her car. Jenna caught the worst impact and I have been unable to sleep most of the night. I have just had a text to tell me that they have just removed her Spleen and she has a broken collar bone. She is still asleep at the moment but I wait to hear any more news.

Last night was the first time I preyed in years. I hope you make a full recovery soon Jenna xx

Happy Birthday to me

Posted by Martyn

Happy Birthday to me woot! One step closer to 30………….Would be less then a year but next year is a leap year ;) I think! So yes 29 today! And I don’t feel a day over 24, thanks for all my comments and messages to people on myspace. Thanks to Carla for my Bob the Builder card! And badge which I am not going to pin into my England top! I finally got round to watching Blades of Glory (Thanks Lou x) very funny film for those who like silly comedy :)
I actually bought some cakes in at lunch time, all they had were chocolate Ć©clairs and when I brought them back no one wanted any due to being on a diet, not liking cream and being not hungry, so after eating 6 of them I feel a bit sick!

I was meant to be going to a comedy club on the weekend but due to lack of tickets that idea got hit on the head. I might be going to Hed Kandi in Bristol on Saturday night instead.

Soo what did I do for my birthday? Well I went to work and as my colleague is off today I also had his work to do as well. I am about to go play football and will go for a pint or two after in the pub! Looks like rain too :P

Thanks again for your kind words all

Virginia Tech Shootings

Posted by Martyn

Another sunny day and I have to look out on it from the inside. I might have to go and lye on the gardens at work in the sun, take my ipod and sunbath!

I have been keeping up with the Virginia Tech shootings and I feel so bad for the families and friends of those who were killed. I can’t understand what goes through the head of someone like Cho Seung-Hui to do such a thing.
It worries me a little how some people seemed to know something like this was going to happen and he would just crack and yet nothing seemed to be done about it. The guy was committed to a psychiatric unit after stalking to girls 6 months before it happened, a teacher told cops that the guy was mad a year before and he had a really mean streak. Apparently he had an imaginary girlfriend called Jelly who was a supermodel! I hope that everyone killed in this horrific tragedy can rest in peace. As a sign of respect I will leave the VT ribbon as my myspace profile picture until Monday. RIP

Little Old Ladies and Bluetooth Headsets

Posted by Martyn

I don’t mind Bluetooth headsets, I have one in fact! They are safer to use while driving and while you are working on a PC or working around the house. But I can not see why people walk around shops with them hanging out of their ears! I only really use mine when driving long distances but I would never dream of going shopping or to a football match with one in my ear. Especially if my job was a burger flipper! You’re not important mate; no one is going to call you with any significance.

Following my other blog about old drivers, I was coming back from lunch yesterday and while going around the roundabout and coming to a set of green traffic lights we all started slowing down as a Honda Civic was slowing down. First off I thought that they thought that it was a give way or it was Red (hard to tell I know) but to my shock and up most horror the car took a wide turn and went up the wrong way of the slip road to the motorway into oncoming traffic. We all beeped at this little old lady and what did she do but turn and face us and wave!! WAVE for fuck sake! Only when a car in front of her came to an abrupt stop she realised and swung a U turn. It scares me shitless to see drivers like this on the roads.

Anyway must say something about this wonderful weather we are having, it gave me chance to lye in the garden all day Sunday. Also I would like to put forward to all my Bristol City fans on here that I am dead nervous about the last 3 games. 6 points for a guaranteed promotion into the championship with Carlisle and Millwall to play away. Come on you Red!!

Easter Weekend

Posted by Martyn

With spending the last week on the road a lot it has come apparent to me that Sunday drivers are the worst. While driving on a weekday everyone is driving 80mph tops and moving into the first/second lane if there is no one there. Why is it on a Sunday that you get some granny stuck in the third lane doing 70mph not overtaking anything and not moving over which forces you to dangerously undertake? Also among these drivers I also noticed that the average speed is 80mph and the fastest is 100+ why only on a Sunday?

I had a great week off work, got to watch Hot Fuzz which is a very funny film, spent most of Friday in the beer garden of the local and also playing football drunk across the road on the green. And Sunday/Monday I was invited to a BBQ by Lou near Oxford where I met some very nice people and had a great time.

Today I had to go to the dentist and to my surprise he found nothing to moan at me about and I was in and out within 3 minutes and to celebrate I bought a pack of Bon Bons. As I sat down in that comfortable tilting chair tears for fears came onto the radio and my dentist stopped what he was doing and turned to the radio, I thought to myself “finally this guy has got some taste and was about to turn the volume up” to my disappointment he was only putting his annoying classical music on!

This week will be quiet as Matt is off so that means I will be here on my own and have already started by playing dance music at a higher then normal volume. I will go to the gym tonight before watching Man Utd on the TV.

I need to sort out going to Reading in June to have a drinking session with some of the other guys for work and also I plan to visit London in the coming Month.

The Weekend

Posted by Martyn

This weekend was pretty much football orientated. Saturday I went to the gym in the morning before heading off to watch Bristol City comeback and draw with Nottingham Forest 1-1 to keep our automatic promotion prospects alive. Then Man Utd came back from 0-1 down to beat Blackburn 4-1. Sunday morning I spent in the gym again then headed off to the pub to watch my rival club Bristol Rovers take on Doncaster in the Johnstons paint trophy final played at the millennium stadium in Cardiff. After 4 minutes they were 2-0 down and to be honest I was laughing my head off but in all fairness to Rovers they came back into it forcing extra time in which they lost 3-2.
In the evening I was meant to have a night in but I had to change my plans when I got a text from an old friend of mine who was back in Bristol for the night. For those who read my surveys you would know that when the question comes up “Are you missing anyone right now?” I will always put Liz! Well it was her that turned up in Bristol so I could hardly say no to a pint. It was nice catching up with her but strange being back in Thornbury and so close to my X fiancĆ©es house.
I wont be around much this week as from today I am off of work :) have a great week everyone!

Back to me!

Posted by Martyn

Back to my life instead of witty moans which I actually liked :(
So I am not sat at work on my own as Matt has the day off (and Ali does not seem to be in today either) looking at the BBC news web link that Cait gave me, it says that shoppers who queued for the PS3 this morning and probable sat there for a day or something where given free £2,500 TV’s to go with their £430 PS3……….Makes me want to cry!

In other news I noticed that my mobile bill has been exceptionally high for the past few months and when I studied the bill and list of calls I was getting charged for every text message I was sending when I should have 500 free a month……….and this went back to when I took out the contract in July. I called Vodafone this morning who promised me that I would get this money back which is about £30 a month which should be about £200.

I have no plans yet for the weekend but I expect to be watching the England match wherever I am :)

Have a great weekend everyone

Martyn on Motorways

Posted by Martyn

Motorway driving, some of us love it, some of us hate it, and a few of us are scared of it but no matter what you must admit that long journeys can be tediously boring. Ok farmers and the government have put a few things here and there to look at while you drive but do we really need a family of 4 staring at a 12 meter tall wicker man instead of the road?

The most accidents on the motorway are down to tiredness rather then people speeding and they tell us that if we are tired to pull into the next services to take a rest and grab some coffee, I don’t know about you but coffee really makes me want to pee! Is it really a good idea to get loads of drivers come out back onto the motorway with full bladders? Not to mention the price of said coffee in the services anyway.

People slow down when there is a police car on the road……..what the hell is that all about? Frankly it annoys me when people see a camera or police car and slam on there breaks when they were doing 70mph anyway. To be fair 99% of police don’t care if you pass them at 75mph but why do people feel the need to drop to 60 is just plain annoying. I think that cameras on the motorway cause more problems when the driver in front slams on his breaks right in front of you.

Please don’t think I am a moaning bastard I am Happy 99% of the time and I do love to drive but I think I follow in my father’s footsteps and his father before him when it comes to road rage.

Martyn on Driving

Posted by Martyn

What is it with old people and fast cars? I could never understand why they need them. Insurance companies must be pissing themselves when they ring up for a quote, I mean I just seen a old lady who could hardly see over the steering wheel driving the old Peugeot 205 GT Turbo, I mean this is a quick hot hatch and this women looked in her early 80’s. I was thinking if she put her foot to the floor she’s going to kill me! I really want to put a sticker in her rear window saying “over take with caution”

At the bottom of my old friend’s road there was this sweet little old lady who used to have a Ford Escort Cosworth. When I was younger this was every young males dream car, it was sexy, fast and expensive. Yet this old lady had one………….and all she did was use it to travel down to the end of the road to walk her dogs in the park.

I know we all have to turn old sometimes but I really feel that old people should have to retake their tests again. All this police money being spent trying to catch down youths driving to quickly could be solved buy taking half the old pensioners off of the motorways. Most of the accidents involving boy racers in speedy cars are because they have just swerved out the way of an old guy changing lanes at 40mph without indication.

On Saturday I seen an old guy driving his Nissan off the motorway and onto the mud next to the motorway and instead of stopping he just carried on going chucking up all the mud onto the motorway. When I came back the motorway was shut because it was a danger to drive on.

Least I know I am not going over the speed limit while following *some of these older drivers, while I was on my way to the gym I was following one down this country road, I looked down at my speedometer and it said 40mph on the dot, 2 miles down the road I looked again and the speed has not changed, 40mph on the dot, not 1mph over or under. They must spend half their time looking at the meter making sure it does not move instead of looking at the road. Fair enough he was doing the speed limit but he was swerving all over the road. One reason why I never over took him!

Anyway that’s my rant over for now.

Hope you all had a good weekend.
*I say some because I can't really say all of them as I am sure that there are some old petrol heads out there.

Happy St Patrick’s Day

Posted by Martyn

Normally a drinking day for me but after that illness I would like to keep back on track with my fitness. Instead I went out last night and had a few drinks of Guinness a day early. As it was Comic Relief last night the pub put on a few things to get some money for the charity and raised just shy of £500.
This morning I shot out early to Ashton Gate to get a 7 put on the back of my City shirt then I went straight to the gym to watch Soccer AM while I worked out.
Then I went to the pub to watch United hammer Bolton 4-1 but I stayed on cola. Now I am sat here listening to the radio and City are being held to a 0-0 draw and Yeovil have just gone down 1-0.

Anyone in Bristol, as I travelled down the M32 they have some new signs with cameras on the top, does anyone know what they are?

Back on Track

Posted by Martyn

Although I feel that something is not right I still think there is some pain in my chest still, that in mind I have decided to resume my workout at the gym and go back to playing football. I went back to football on Monday and even though my chest hurt after I feel this was because I had not eaten all day rather then any continuous problems. Last night I went back to the gym lifting and working on upper body weights. I got tired quickly but again this was because I have not lifted anything in 2 weeks. I only spent an hour there as I knew I wanted to go back today to work on fitness and cardio. My stomach hurt a little afterwards when I was lying down in bed but no where near as bad as before. I will continue to take things a little easier until I finish the medication next Monday.

With no City home game this weekend things look clear and I have yet to make any plans. As I am still saving I don't think I will do much but I will pop up to the local on Friday to join in with the Comic Relief celebrations and see one of the bar staff get gunged! (*we all know who that will be) As for the rest of the weekend I will just take things as they come, one of my friends wants to do something on Saturday as his wife is going out so I might do something then. I would like to wash my car and go to the gym too but unless another option comes up things look quiet.

*When I say we I mean me ;)

Stubborn

Posted by Martyn

Another week and 2 days to go on this medication and I can not seem to resist not being able to go to the gym. I feel better in myself but I know I am not 100% fit yet and there is something still wrong. But all that aside I still went to the gym this morning. I blame the fact that I was watching Rocky 3 this morning and when he does that training bit with Apollo Creed it really got me in the mood.

People all the time need motivation to go to the gym or do some exercise, I say just watch Rocky and once the eye of the tiger comes on it will motivate you.

I was good in the respect that I never lifted anything even though while I was on the cross trainer I was eyeing up the free weight section. I have never been on a Saturday morning before, always Saturday afternoon and Sunday Mornings but I discovered that on Saturday morning’s gives me a chance to watch Soccer Am so I am making this a new time for me every week.

I did go to the pub last week and had to stay on none fizz or acidic alcohol so Worthington it was. The night was ok, the old barmaids who used to work there came in so I spent some of the night chatting with them.

I feel asleep to the TV last night and woke up with a text from a number I don’t have saved which was sent at 2am. It is driving me mad as I don’t know who it is. I have my suspicions but won’t jump to any conclusions.

Feeling slightly better

Posted by Martyn

So I am feeling better but in the mornings I am still in a lot of pain and I have not had a full night sleep for 4 nights now. Also I am still going to work and at times I am very uncomfortable but things are really busy at the moment and I want to be sure that my work gets done.
At least I have been getting out; I watched Liverpool play yesterday and I have just come in from watching Man Utd win 1-0. P.S. Bristol City won to retake 2nd place with one game in hand. I really hope we get automatic promotion because I do not think I can face another year of play offs.

Not much more is happening, I really miss the gym, it has been nearly 2 weeks now and I am starting to feel unfit in myself. I really can not wait to get back and not fall into that state of mind where you can’t be bothered because your motivation has gone.

Anyway, I might go swimming tomorrow.

I gave in and went to the Doctors

Posted by Martyn

Since Friday I have been having a pain in my stomach, first of all I thought it was trapped wind but after another day of it I scrapped that idea. It's painful to lye down and that’s what is keeping me up at nights, it feels like I have just been punched in the stomach and is at its worst when I get up in the mornings. Anyhow I rushed off to the doctors this morning into a packed waiting room and for the first time as soon as my bum hit the seat I was called up to the annoyance to everyone else in the room who had been waiting for ages.
Cut a long story short the Doc thinks that all my coughing has inflamed my stomach acids, causing the tube which your food comes down to swell and close. He has given me medication to take for the next two weeks and I can't eat anything spicy, lift any weights and only do mild exercise. The worse case scenario is hernia which I hope it isn't.

Still ill

Posted by Martyn

Since last Saturday I have been sick and I am fed up. I can’t remember the last time I have been ill for so long, it seems as if I manage to get rid of one cold and something else comes along to ruin my day/week. I have not been to the gym for over a week and not played football for 2 weeks, I feel so unfit at the moment.

All I have been able to do is watch DVD’s, I want to go out and have a few pints!!!!!

On the better side I did managed to pick up a Bristol City home shirt for £20 and Man Utd won against the run of play against Liverpool on Saturday morning!

Catch Up

Posted by Martyn

Hey everyone, sorry I have not made a blog but I really have not been up to much. I am sat here on a Sunday morning feeling like shit. My sister has been ill for the past week so it was only a matter of time before she passed it onto me. As I have no money for the next two weeks I couldn’t do anything anyway but I hate staying in all day watching shit TV. I always seem to get ill on the weekend and hardly on the week.
Anyway, I am still loving the car, it’s such a pleasure to drive and it’s so smooth and quick, not always a great thing because you look down and realise you are 10mph over the speed limit. This is where Cruise control comes in handy.

I have picked up two new albums this week, The Fray – How to Save a Life and the Kaiser Chiefs – Yours Truly, Angry Mob. Both I can recommend.

I have also watched a few films, including Ice Age 2 and Monster house. I am such a kid ;) also I watched the Notebook last night as a lot of people have told me it was very good.

Right I am going to go shave as it has been a week and I am starting to look like Grizzly Adams

Old Friends and New Cars

Posted by Martyn

One of my New Years resolutions was to see my old friends more often so last night I went out for a drink with a friend called Jeremy. I have known him since the age of 3 and we went to primary/junior school together. It has been over a year since I last met up with him and had a meal with him and his girlfriend so it we had a lot to chat about and reminisce. I have found out that he is now engaged and I will be making a second attempt of being an usher at his wedding. This also means I will be bumping into a few of my old mates from school when we fly to Spain for his stag party.
We went to a few pubs before heading back to his new house where we sat and chatted until 1am this morning. No wonder why I am so tired this morning.

Anyway at 7.30 this morning I was awoken to my dad asking me if we are going to collect this car or not. Turns out that when I told the garage id pick it up at 11 I never ran it past when I could get a lift in and my father had other plans.
So we got to the garage at 9.45 and I went through all the work we had asked doing. Everything was spot on even down to the engine being cleaned.

I found out this morning that I needed to last the rest of the week until payday and I was £200 short so the credit card came out :(

All happy though, pictures below!

Bristol City you have made me proud

Posted by Martyn

What a rollercoaster of emotions last night while watching Bristol City play Middlesbrough away in an FA cup replay. I watched with delight as City started on a positive note and not only were they playing 10x better then their last 3 league games but they were actually outplaying Middlesbrough. All that hard work and effort paid off when David Noble netted a well earned goal after been given acres of space by Middlesbrough defence. Noble now known to my best mate as his hero, has not been playing of late but I feel that in past games that he has played he has earn’t himself a place in the starting 11.
Anyway, start of the second half and Southgate brought on Viduka, who in all honesty should have started. Middlesbrough were a different side and it was only a matter of time until the scored the equaliser in the 70th minute by a Viduka header. City still playing very well but looked dead tired leading up to full time managed to hold a draw forcing extra time when Yakubu netted a easy tape in. Not to mention Middlesbrough hit the bar twice. But we were back on our feet 4 minutes before the end when McCombe scored forcing penalties.

Anyone who supports a club with a lot of passion and have seen them go through penalties will know how hard they are to watch. But watch we did until City went out 5-4.

All in all I am very please with the performance and I am proud of my team.

At last a new car

Posted by Martyn

Well today I took the time off work to travel to Chippingham to go check out the only Golf that sounded any good. The price tag was a whooping £9,000 but as the VW garage had just sold one exactly the same for £11,500 it was cheap because of the low mileage. I took my dad’s friend who also happens to be a Mechanic, this turned out to be a good thing as he picked out things that I would not of seen. The car itself was very nice, 5 door, black with no scratches, the guy pointed out a couple of things that they would sort before handing over the car. The windscreen needed replacing and there where a couple of dents that he said they would sort out.
Thing is we also found that break disks and pads where all worn, a cord on the parcel shelf was missing, and it needed a service. With all that in mind he was still going to drop the price to £8,750 like he told us. But I was worried about the Timing belt, even though the car had not done 60,000 miles it was getting close to 5 years old and when it comes to ware and tear the timing belt is not one of those things you would wait to get replaced.
“For those who don’t know the timing belt (Cam belt) costs about £10 but the price is in the labour as they have to take out most of the engine to replace it and that’s what stings you for about £350 - £400 but if it snaps while driving it takes out all your cams and cold be a costly £800+ to fix”. So he said that if I pay the price of the car which was £250 more he would get that done as well. So basically I am having £600 ish work done on it for £250.

Anyway, I have to wait until a week Saturday before I can pick up the car. I took it for a spin and it is one of the smoothest cars I have driven, I would of never thought that in a diesel. It is also quick ;)

Chasing Cars

Yesterday I had a fantastic time looking at cars….not, as I don’t have a car my Dad bless him offered to drive me around (so long as I forked out for fuel of course). Upon leaving the house we passed this black GT TDI less then a mile from our house so I knocked on the door to inquire, it was a 2002 and she was a private seller, there were scratches all over it, paint taken off the bumper at the back and cigarette burns inside. She kept telling me how fast the car goes and what she could get out of it which means she has been ranting it. There was over 75k on the clock and as a private seller she wanted £8,700 for it. Uhh no way, not worth it too much! Anyway we drove al the way to Cheltenham which is a 70 mile round trip, 5 minutes away from the garage I gave the chap a call on the mobile for directions. When we arrived 10 minutes later he had left…not only that but he told me there was 60k on the clock and when I looked through the window there was 76k. Needless to say the manager rang back today asking if I was interested so I had to let him know that I wasn’t happy about being lied to and travelling all that way to find they guy in charge just leave.

In the evening I went out into Bristol with my friend Kate her sister and boyfriend John and a few others. It was a good night, we got chatting and I got to talk football with John which was cool as he supports reading and I have had a lot of run ins with that team in the past.
It’s a shame we never ended in a place with a dance floor with some funky house as I would have liked to make a night of it.

Got in at 4am after travelling home on the bus with loads of loud people, turns out one of the cast from skins was on the bus and all the girls wanted to get a picture with him.
This morning I was up 4 hours later and off we were again to check out a garage where we knew the car wasn’t there and the garage is shut. Not a bad visit, I like to get the feel of a garage before I buy a car from them. Seems like without seeing the car this is the best on I have come across. It’s a Black Golf GT TDI, 2002 with 37k miles on the clock for £8,800. More then I want to spend but if it is in mint condition I am going to take it. It’s the only one I have come across with such low mileage.

Watch this space, I will try and get the day off Tuesday and ask if he could put it back for me. We did go look at other garages but all were either overpriced or had loads of miles on the clock.

I have now finished N3, so sad to finish it :(

More N3 and an amusing cake

Posted by Martyn

Getting further on N3, just finished Tyurru’s missions, she is a 12 year old sorceress who has cool move but the problem with her is that any enemy that comes close or from another side they are hard to defend against. And most of her boss characters are massive trolls. She does however have an amazing light move attack where she creates a tsunami. The other character I have unlocked is Klarrann, who is a 30 year old priest who uses a bound staff. He is slow but has three different attacks as the jump button is another attack. One more character to go after then it’s levelling up all the characters.

In a bit I will be heading out to look at cars then tonight I should be going into Bristol with Vixen and co. Hopefully this will be a good night.

I leave you with pictures of this guy’s wedding cake which I found very amusing.

It's Friday

Posted by Martyn

So it’s Friday at last. Although having said that it has gone by very fast. It only seemed like yesterday I was on my way to play football and that was on Monday. Had numerous calls from my mate Mark asking about tonight, first it was a night up the local then it was up the cinema then back to the pub until he finally said fuck it lets have a night in because we are out Monday night to watch…………..you guessed it the football. It suits me because I am heading out tomorrow night into Bristol and spending tomorrow looking for a Car. I have already got a few cars in mind ranging from 2001-03. It’s not how much I want to spend it’s more about the mileage. Believe it or not but the oldest car has the least miles on it, plus full MOT and a warranty.

After downloading the song last week The Fray’s “How to save a life” is my favourite song at the moment, I had to keep playing it at work today which is a schoolboy error because you know that listening to songs all the time makes you become quickly board with them.

As for my quest through N3 I am now on the next character who happens to be one of the bad guys who believe it or not seems to be one of my favourites. Not great looking but has some fantastic moves. Dwingvatt is a 15-year-old goblin with human-like skin, often known as the "White Goblin", from Fort Wyandeek. His weapon is a pair of shortswords.

Why City Why

Posted by Martyn

I think all City fan’s including me have now set into this attitude that we should be winning every game with ease and after last nights match I came to start thinking about it more carefully. We have gone on an amazing 18 games unbeaten and we are still sitting 3 point and a game in hand off top. Does this give me reason enough to ignore last nights travesty? No not really, they played like they thought they could just turn up and win just because Cheltenham are near the bottom of the league. But on the other hand Bristol City has been playing a lot of games over the past month and it was only a matter of time before we lost a game. There where a lot of changes and why Noble never started after the Middlesbrough game is beyond me. One other moan is Johnson’s son, sure he had a good game last weekend but last nigh he clearly was not having a great game and he was not replaced until the 80th minute.
On a whole though I am still in a good mood, although last night hurt we are still in the FA cup, we have 2 Bristol Derby’s to look forward to and maybe a Final at the Millennium stadium and we are 3 points off top. I just hope we get our act together before playing Scunthorpe on Monday.

I have managed to get to the next character Myifee on N3, every game has a character you don’t like. In this game he is mine. Big and slow with bad moves.

Yes, yes I can read, shocking huh!

Posted by Martyn

It was great playing football last night, I really enjoyed it. We had 16 people turn up which made 8 a side. Some new players who I had not seen before one in particular played really well. We managed to win 2-1 which was a fair reflection of the game as both teams played well with some fantastic football being played. Unfortunately I never managed to score but had 3 shots on target all of them saved.

When I got home I played a bit more of Ninety Nine Nights before falling asleep in front of the TV while watching Family Guy.

Today has not been to bad work wise, I still have some issues to sort out but “touch wood” I will not get much new calls to order but you never know. For lunch today I thought that I really should get back into reading so I took Peter Kay’s Autobiography to work and sat down in the coffee area with a bottle of Fanta and put my legs up on the table and sat back on the sofa/chairs they have and read for an hour. It was nice to get a bit of reading done, I have so many books to pile through at the moment and I also bought one of Jeremy Clarkson’s last night too.

We have a new woman by the name of Carla start at work who has taken the job of my friend Paula. At first she seemed quite to herself but then again I suppose you would be when you come to work in a new place not knowing anyone. She moved down here from the Bracknell offices with her boyfriend. As she can not drive she cycles to work and has just told me that she has signed up to do a 250 mile cycle with her boyfriend and some others from work around Ireland in October and asked if I would like to do it. Hell no, I get tired cycling 3 miles to work everyday and I wouldn’t do 62.5 miles a day unless there was stops at every pub. We did do that before but the next day we could not walk, and I don’t fancy waking up to having to cycle another 63 miles. Carla also has started looking at the fitness classes our work provides and asked me if I wanted to do ‘Box Fit’ classes, I think she would be glad for the company as our area is quite small and only I and Matt are here who make an effort to chat and be friendly. I may give it a thought as I would like to try new things but I really would like to sign up to some form of Marshal Arts at Esporta.

I’ll leave you with a Logic Puzzle (Answers on a postcard)

"I guarantee," said the pet-shop salesman, "that this parrot will repeat every word it hears." A customer bought the parrot but found it would not speak a single word. Nevertheless, the salesman told the truth. Explain.

City draw agaist Boro, Drinks with Vixen

Posted by Martyn

Last night me and Kate went out to the Anchor for a few drinks, unfortunately I could not be out long as I had to get up to help my uncle move some beds from house to tip to house to house to tip. It was a great night chatting about games and taking the piss out of massive guys who look like Boomers and scary looking women. Thanks Kate for a great night but we will have to go out properly next week.

As for today well wow, wow and wow, When City managed to beat Coventry and draw Middlesbrough at home in the 4th round I must admit I was very pleased. It was a chance to see some great talent come to Ashton Gate not to mention manager Garth Southgate. I must admit I was expecting to be beat 1-3 and after the first half when we fall 0-2 I was starting to feel it was coming true. But even at half time I was pleased and proud of the way our boys where dealing with the Premiership giants. After getting 1 goal back I was so pleased and after coming back into the game so many times already this season my hopes of getting a draw lifted. When Scott Murray scored to make it 2-2 I had never been so excited at home, it was a fantastic feeling and I swear I must of knocked the old man over next to me.

Now I have to wait until Feb 13th to travel up north to The Riverside. Congratulations boys.

The Weekend Cometh

Posted by Martyn

Last night I managed to finish the Inphyy levels on Ninety Nine Nights, I really could not put the game down, it’s the simplicity of games that I have been looking for. Not much strategy just load up and mash loads of enemies. The end of Inphyy’s missions was quite hard and the only downfall of this game is the fact you can not save in between missions which means when you get to the boss and die you have to replay the whole mission which could be up to an hour of game play. Now I have started a campaign with Inphyy’s brother Aspharr who seems more level headed then 17 year old Inphyy whose hunger comes from rage from the death of her father.
I have also bought Children of Mana for the DS and won Pokemon DS from eBay and have a bid on Final Fantasy 3.
As for the weekend approaching, tomorrow Bristol City play Middlesbrough at home then I am out in Staple Hill for my friend’s birthday. Sunday will be a quiet day and I hope that my back will be healed enough to let me go to the gym.

More N3 and more

Posted by Martyn

This week is going by so quickly. My muscles on my back are still hurting which means I will not be going to the gym later which gives me a night to play a bit more Fifa and N3. I will also pop onto Viva PiƱata and send Vixen and Jade some of my things before selling the game. I very much doubt that I will play it again. I asked GAME how much they would let me trade in and they said £10…………………£10 get f**ked, that have pre owned ones on the shelf for £35 so there is no way that I will give them the pleasure of making £25 out of me. As there is no more games coming out I will look at buying Lost Planet, now that my friend and colleague has picked it up and loves it, also there is a lack of games being released in the next few months.
Like I said before I am still awaiting Final Fantasy XI to turn up and hope that it does not rule my life like the beta. I can see sleepless nights and 6GB of my 9GB left on my HDD being used.

In other news its payday today and finding out that I had £60 left over from last month I did the right thing and paid £50 into my second account to bump that up for Car/Bed. I do need a new bed but Car is first priority for me.

I am actually really looking forward to playing N3 again tonight, Even though it’s the simplest of games it’s so fun to swipe out loads of enemies out at once just like Sauron in Lord of the Rings plus I am always a fan of Japanese character design and styles of their crazy hair.

Ninety Nine Nights at last, Football and Work

Posted by Martyn

So I found a copy of Ninety Nine Nights in Bristol for £13. I wanted this game since release but never wanted to pay £44 for it. The copy I have is pre-owned and has some scratches on the disk which to my annoyance last night when it would not load Level 3. After some major disk cleanage I managed to get it to load. I hope I don’t have to take it back because I am sure I can not find it that cheap anywhere else.
I really like the game, when the demo was out I could not stop playing the same level over and over. To some people it will be repetitive but for me it’s once of those games that you can pick up and play, not spend loads of hours in one sitting and it also has great characters and good storyline.

As for the other thing in my life Bristol City managed another win last night in what we love to call the Mickey Mouse Cup the Johnstones Paint Trophy. After last nights walk over against Brighton 2-0 it looks as if we could face Bristol Rovers in the area final if they manage to beat or even play their game against Shrewsbury. I do feel sorry for all the fans that travelled up there to find the game has been postponed for the second time. The Football League wanted them to play tonight which would of be crazy to ask the club and supporters but it looks as if they will be playing on Monday which again will cause problems after playing Derby on the weekend. Also this postpones City’s next game and could cause us problems.

Work seems very busy of late; I had some bad news today as it looks like we might be losing most of our work to CDS. This means that if there is not enough work for us they will have to move us which I do not fancy one bit. Looks like I will have to wait until the end of February to find out what is actually happening. I guess in the meantime I could just look for a new job starting today. But like I have said in the past I have no idea what I would move into after spending nearly 10 years in this company.
The strange thing is I find this information about our sites from colleges and friends and not through the management.

In other news I have had my loan through so I just need to sign the forms and send it back and I should have a car by the end of Feb.

Football & Tomb Raider

Posted by Martyn

This month has gone so quickly, it doesn’t feel that long since Christmas Day apart from suffering through all this wind and rain which seems to have brought over this cold front. Another Monday and another busy morning. I really do not know what is going on with work at the moment, Tim is still off and his work seems to be picking up as well as my own, which means I have to struggle to get everything finished on time and on top of that I am behind with my escalations.
My loan should be in my account sometime this week then I can start looking for a car, but this weekend seems to look like a busy one as Bristol City will be playing Middlesbrough in the FA cup, Saturday is my mate’s birthday which I completely forgotten and I promised Vixen that we would do something. (If you are reading how about Friday night?)
I have bought Final Fantasy XI for the Xbox but I really do not want it to take up all my time like the Beta did. I still have COD3 to play and recently I have started playing Fifa again not to mention playing Tomb Raider through again (which may I add, really enjoying). While on the subject of Tomb Raider I have found out last week that the 10th anniversary edition will only be released for the PS2 and PS3. One of my favourite games on the PS1 and best Tomb Raider game and I am going to have to wait until I can buy a PS3 before I can play it. There is always the option of playing it on the PS2 first but if I know there is a better version out there I don’t want to do that.

Tonight I am meant to be playing football but while at the gym on Saturday I think I pulled a muscle in my shoulder blade which I seemed to have sleep on last night and now it hurts like hell. It did not help that I was drunk last night after Man U’s defeat to that scum Arsenal then sitting up till 1am playing Fifa.

Tomorrow is the Johnsons Cup replay against Brighton which if I was honest, not to worried about. Also I can not see us beating Middlesbrough on Saturday but all I want is us to concentrate on the League and get promoted into the Championship for next season.

Anyway, I am going to go on the net to look at more cars.

Work, Loans, Life and Uno

Posted by Martyn

So here I am Friday afternoon and I have just stopped working. Been a busy day….too buy for a Friday. I did however manage to go to the UWE bar at lunchtime for a quick pint. Got a few things sorted today, managed to pop to the bank and found I had a little extra cash before Payday so what did I do with it? I paid a bit more off my credit card. That’s will power for you; normally I would have bought a game or something. I still left some for the weekend and maybe enough to put into savings.

The other thing I managed to sort out was my loan for my car which took less then 20 minutes to fill in online and approve. £5,000 at 6.0% APR is a bargain. I will add that to the £2,000 I have in my second account and start looking for a car this weekend.

I need to start to sell some of my stuff on ebay, as I have a quiet weekend planned I will have a look through some games I no longer play and other things and put them up for sale.

Last night I had my hair cut into a new style which I am getting used to. It will take a while longer in the mornings to do then normal, the only other problem will be when I go swimming, I will have to leave it flat lol

Had a few games of Uno with Vixen, Ivy, PJ and briefly Nesto. I did happen to come into the first game of Uno to see some guy from the US with his camera aimed at his crotch and he was grabbing his cock, not really what I needed to see and I am glad to see that his camera is being put to good use…………NOT

Football and Cars

Posted by Martyn

4 day week this week as I took yesterday off to travel up to Coventry with City friend Kate. The drive up was quick but then again she drove at 90mph most of the way which I found funny. I had never been to Coventry City’s ground (The Ricoh Arena) before and it is a fantastic ground. The only problem was that it felt empty as not a lot of Coventry fans turned up. I don’t know whether that was because we were the underdogs and they felt that the match would be rubbish or maybe it was the fact that their poor performance in recent games didn’t warrant them buying a ticket for a 3rd round replay of the FA cup. Anyhow, the Bristol fans were full of life and I managed to bump into a few people I had not seen for ages. There was Matt who I had known since I was little and it was because of him I first started to follow City. I bumped into Mike and old college I used to work with and I also seen the family that sat next to me at the Gate.
The only problem I had with some of the fans is the fact that they spent the whole game watching the home fans and not the football. It seems as if some are there just to cause trouble.
The price of the tickets where cheap in my opinion but I guess they made up for that by charging £10 a ticket for the car park.
The game was one sided and Bristol City played well, one of the best matches I had seen this season. Next up Middlesbrough.

The journey home seemed quicker but it took a lot longer as we first went the wrong way and then where diverted through Birmingham as the M42 was closed.

Today at work was very busy and I hardly had time to do my own work as I had escalation after escalation to deal with. The only time I got to myself was at lunch time which I spent looking for a car. I am looking to get a Golf for around £7,000, I do want the Diesel but I did take an interest in the 1.9 T GTi but everyone is warning me that it’s insurance group 19 and drinks fuel like no tomorrow. It’s strange because the Turbo Petrol is a lot Cheaper then its Diesel brother. The car I am looking at is the GT TDI and I can not wait until I get back to having my own car. Especially a 6 speed turbo ;)

Tomorrow I am going to try and get up early to go to the gym and then at Lunch time I have a game of squash with my mate Matt. So it looks like I wont have much energy left in the evening.

Video Game History of Me

Posted by Martyn

I know that most people who read my blogs are from gaming websites so I thought I would write a blog about my history of gaming. I would not class myself as a hardcore gamer but I am a gamer and always will be.

My earliest memory is having the Sinclair Spectrum 128k, man I loved that thing; I used to play Dizzy with the massive black keyboard with the cassette player attached to the side and a massive joystick which broke easy with excessive force. As my sister had a bigger room we would sit on the floor with the Spectrum connected to a black and white TV which actually made the games look better. If you were lucky enough to play it on a colour TV you would get blurriness from the poor gaming design. As well as going through the Commodore 64 and of course the God of Console/Keyboard machine the Amiga 500 with syndicate and Cannon Fodder (ohh what days); anyway where was I going? Umm oh yes first console experience was around my Uncles and they had an Atari 2200 with games like Pac Man and Jungle Hunt.

Skipping on a few years I remember cycling around one of my friends house to check out his new console, it looked fantastic with control pads instead of joysticks. Also it had a D-pad and two red buttons and took these carts that slotted into the front flap of the console. I am of course describing the Nintendo Entertainment System or as it became know as the NES. The controller was so uncomfortable having sharp 90 degree angles and in the shape of a rectangle but we didn’t care, seeing the Super Mario Brothers for the first time was pure heaven. I needed to have this console. So next Christmas I asked for one, but I was at that craft age where I knew there was no Santa and I went looking through my dads wardrobe when they where out one day to see it sat there. I remember that Christmas I had to put on a surprised face when I unwrapped it knowing full well what I already had. It’s caught on video and if you are ever lucky you might see my award winning performance. After unwrapping it there was little more to do then get a TV and hook it up, of course in those days my dad would never let me use the BIG TV to play video games, uh no I had to use the small tiny 14” screen to play duck hunt on. Again going back to that classic video moment you can see my sister playing duck hunt with the light gun less then an inch from the screen….Happy Days

Things moved on quite fast from there, with the delights of Sega vs Nintendo I bought the Master system before splashing out on the colourful SNES with that nice rounded controller and pretty coloured buttons and what was this? Easily breakable shoulder pads. I say this because when I went through 3 controllers because I dropped them and every time they would land on the shoulder. My favourite memory of the Snes was just completing Super Soccer against Germany after hours of play only to chuck the controller down hitting that massive reset switch!!!! Did it really need to be that big? It was no where as good and we designed to say the megadrive. Yes you knew it was coming and one of my greatest consoles was the Sega megadrive. With its batman like controller and games like Castle of Illusion, Sonic and Strider.

1996 and the console sat under my same 14” colour TV was the Nintendo 64, Wow this to the day remains the only console I was excited about the night before release. I had one on pre order and I could not sleep. During some Temp work I spent a few weeks working for Future Publishing in Bath, once at Total Magazine where I spent most of the time playing Earthworm Jim and another where I worked for the OPM (Official Playstation Magazine). When working there Edge magazine which worked in the same room had an American N64 with Mario Kart 64 and Mario 64. Every time we finished for the day all the magazines would go to the Edge area and we would have a knock out competition on Mario 64, it was class to the maximum and this would have been my dream job if the money was better.
Keeping on the lines of work at future I managed to finish Mario 64 within a week nearly a year before its UK release but that never stopped me buying it with my N64 along with Killer Instinct.
When I started working for the company I work for now in 1996 I bought a guys PS1 off him, this became one of my greatest consoles. I got worms with it which got boring fast but with the release of Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil and the game that still remains my favourite game to date…. Final Fantasy VII. Each of those games brought something new and different, with Resident Evil it was the chill factor, the moments that made me jump like the first time the dog comes through the window, with MGS a game where you had to sneak around and take out the enemies with stealth was amazing. And Final Fantasy VII the first RPG I ever played which dragged me into its own world and for once it was more then a computer game, It was like being there, free roaming I could do what I wanted. All these games have one thing in common and that is deep storylines which have since expanded over time and still alive today. Before I move on I would like to add a quick mention to GTA, a game where you had to sale drugs, kill people and nick cars…… how did they get away with it? But then again who cared at the time.
Playstation 2……………. Before I start I would like to just say that before I had this console I had the Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast which I do regret getting rid of 1 month after buying it. The PS2 didn’t really hit me like the PS1 had, I had Tekken Tag and SSX as my launch games which I thought where brilliant at the time but Sony had failed to recap all the fun I had with its first console. The Final Fantasy games where good but not a patch on 7 & 8, MGS 2 was a let down and Resident Evil Code Named Veronica wasn’t up to much scratch. GTA 3 and Vice City where two games that got my wow factor and even though FF didn’t hit me enough Kingdom Hearts sure did. But what I really want to talk about for the PS2 are two games that never got enough credit and both will lye in my top 20 games for a long time. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, both games where so simple and so beautiful it has been a pleasure to have been able to play them.
After the PS2 I bought the Nintendo Gamecube which I will pass over very quick like the lifespan of the console. Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart where a huge disappointment but the Gamecube released a few titles which where simply breathtaking and still would stand up to games of today. These being MGS Twin Snakes, Resident Evil Remake, Zelda Twilight Princess and of course Resident Evil 4.
When the Xbox was released there was a lot of bad hype, and the only game to get credit was Halo, It took me a year to buy an Xbox but when I did I could see why everyone was so excited about it. It wasn’t just because Halo was a kick ass game but the real strength behind the Xbox was Live. Playing over the internet with people around the globe was such a thrilling and new experience, games like Halo 2 and Splinter Cell had me playing for hours and hours at a time which increased the value of the games. No longer where you paying £40 for a solo game that lasted 30 hours but you had another 50 hours plus playing people on Live. It’s Live that made me pre order a Xbox 360 and it’s live that will keep getting better as years go on. We now have a web cam and mini games like Uno which are so simple but you will play them again and again.

Hope I haven’t bored you but I have to cut this short as I should be on my way home by now.
Bring on the PS3.
