E3 2006

Posted by Martyn

Last week some of you would have known was E3.
For those who do not know here is a brief comment from e3insider.

Every year, the ESA presents the highly acclaimed Electronic Entertainment Expo
(E3), the world's most important show dedicated exclusively to the interactive
entertainment industry. Wholly owned by the ESA, E3 attracts tens of thousands
of industry professionals from around the world to see the latest in interactive
entertainment software and related products, and to participate in three days of
thought-provoking workshops and seminars.

Below I will be talking about the games that most interested me and of course the consoles.
First off is the Nintendo Wii.
Strange that Nintendo decided to change the name from the Revolution and a strange name to choose. The Wii (pronounced wee) will be a new generation of games console. Instead of improving graphics like the PS3 and Xbox 360, Nintendo have changed the way we play games. Nintendo's controller pictured to the left looks like a remote control I hear you say, well it is but with a major difference. With the Wii controller you are able to move your character or weapon on the screen with a wave of your hand. The Wii's remote has a built in motion sensor that detects how the controller is moved and where. This holds an exciting future and also a brave move from Nintendo, like the DS with its touch dual screen system the Wii holds features that have never been touched with the gaming world and for me this is a step closer to virtual reality. The games that have been shown at e3 that have held a lot of interest for me are as follows. Zelda which uses the controller and the Nunchuck a separate controller with a analogue stick to move your character around. You use the motion sensor to aim your bow and your character. There is also a small speaker built into the controller so you can hear the arrow leave your bow and travel to your screen. http://www.e3insider.com/products/?productID=0U8O4R81SB - Click the link to see some of the new Zelda game in action.

Games that have also got hold of my interest are a tennis game which uses the controller as a racket and Monkey Ball which again uses the controller to move the ball around mazes, but you will need a steady hand.

The other next gen console is the PS3. The price has been announced which is $600 (About £425) which seems like a lot of money for a games console. Sure it has blue ray and lots of high tec equipment that you will find on a pc and it is also rumoured to run at true high def.
After seeing the old boomerang controller at last years E3 they have now changed it after a uproar from fans. The new controller will be wireless like the Wii and 360 but a strange change from Sony is they now have a tilt control like the Wii. How strange it is that after Nintendo announced their motion control last year that Sony now 1 year later has changed their controller to add a tilt control. The controlled looks just like the dual shock minus the rumble which has been replaced by the motion sensor.

I doubt I will be getting one on release day due to the fact that it costs way to much but with games like Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 I will be getting one sometime in 2007.

Now the games announced for the 360 that have interest me.

We seen a very short trailer of Halo 3 http://www.e3insider.com/products/?productID=PD434CNUE5
Fable 2 http://www.e3insider.com/products/?productID=7U873JS4TW
Dead Rising http://www.e3insider.com/products/?productID=SXK65U7FYK

Also a new GTA has been announced for the PS3 and X360 but it will be released next year.
