Best Mates Wedding Weekend

Posted by Martyn

Well a nice story to start off my first blog.

On Friday 05/05/06 I travelled to Warrington for one of my best mates wedding. As I am between cars I had to bum a lift from his parents. 6am in the morning I woke up early to take my old man to work; while I was up at such a ridiculous hour I thought that once I dropped him off I would venture to the gym, yes that's right the gym I go to (Esporta) opens at 6.30am. As I pulled up outside shock hit me as the car park was full up with cars…..6.30am and people where at the gym, guess they all go before work. Anyway after a good workout and a morning swim I was ready to face the day. Once I was home I just had enough time to play a bit of Top Spin 2 in which my character won Wimbledon and took the #1 rank in the world, then looked over at the clock and it showed 11.30am OMG I had 30 minutes to pack my stuff and meet my dad at work so he could take me to the place where Ryan’s mum and Matt were collecting me. Clothes flying everywhere and double checking everything I made it to his work a tad late at 12.10pm but it was ok because the people giving me a lift were running late. At the meeting place, the cricket club at Almondsbury, they turned up at 1pm but it was ok because the weather was hot so I took off my top and sunbathed outside on a park bench in my shorts.

Once we got to the Manor House we went straight to the bar, as Matt drove up I got in the first round of the day in. Sat with a few people who did not know me or vice versa but we got on like a house on fire and soon won their hearts as we went through the daily crossword in the daily mail. The Groom was working and never turned up until 6pm and his brother (the best man) was not travelling up until Saturday morning because his 2nd child was ill.A few pints and a shot of whisky later me and both sets of family’s were sat down in one of the local pubs where I had a tasty mixed grill. Again we kept drinking and pilling on the rounds buying everyone drinks. Most people stayed over but as the bride was staying it was best if the Groom spent the night at his house, which was where I was staying so I had the job of making sure he got to the church on time.

Saturday am
The wedding was not until 1pm but being an usher and all they wanted me at the church for 12pm. We both got up at 8am when the door rang and there was the post lady with the wedding favours for the tables which should have been at the Manor hotel. Quick as we could we travelled over to drop the stuff off, the bride was in panic because the bridesmaid’s dresses did not fit and once of the other ushers had the wrong trousers.
We meet his brother at the hotel and we all drove back to his house to shower and change.

12.15pm we all got to the church as popped into the local pub to get a swift shot. The groom looked cool as a cucumber; also weather was great but hot in our Tuxes. Everyone turned up on time (apart from the bride who was running 30 minutes late but that was ok) She turned up at 1.30 in a Pink Cadillac (shown in picture) The service was beautiful and soon we got back in our cars and followed the Pink Cad and two Mini Pink Cabs back to the Manor house.
The wedding reception went well and the roast lamb tasted great, I was a little worried because they sat me on a table full of people who did not know me and I did not know them, but soon I got on well with the three young ladies to my left and a mum and her son to my right.
The wedding had a very pink theme which looked a lot better then I imagined it would. We had pink waistcoats and roses, the bride was in pink, some guests wore pink, pink balloons, pink cars, pink cake etc etc.

The DJ who also sang was brilliant, playing old 60's, 70’s and 80’s songs and also he played the trumpet very well. The speeches from the Groom and Father of the Bride went well and the best man's speech had me in stitches.

From left to right, Ryan the Groom, Laura the Bride and me with the dead rose.

One thing that I found really beautiful was the Bride sang a song to her new husband before we all jumped on the dance floor. The Best Man brought two of his children one Lacy was only 9 months old (I think). Never did I think that when dancing with her in my arms on the dance floor would get the attention of so many women.

Before the end of this longer then planned blog, I’ll say that it was a beautiful wedding and I loved being a part of it.
