For the weekend me and my mate Mark headed up to Blackpool for the weekend to watch the football and have a few drinks. Before the weekend I had never stepped foot in Blackpool before but it was not how I imagined it and somewhere I wouldn’t go on holiday to. I can understand why there are so many stag and hen parties because of the amount of clubs and pubs but after going in a few bars I didn’t even think much of them either.
Anyway, we travelled up at 7am in the morning and traffic was so good that we made it there by 10ish. The weather was shit and it was pouring down with rain. After checking in we dumped our stuff and headed into town to get some money and food.
At 1pm we went into a bar called the Manchester which was over run with Bristol City fans and every so often they would play the wurzels which would start football chants and singing around the bar. Mine and my sisters friend Helen managed to pop over for a quick drink before the match and drop us at the ground. I say ground but I was quite surprised to see only two sides, a temporary stand for the away support (Uncovered) and a car park. As we walked through the turnstiles there was not even tarmac to stand on but very wet and messy sand.
The game itself wasn’t how I imagined things going and I thought that they looked the better side. Lee Trundle kept getting fowled and I don’t know why Jevons did not start the match as Showunmi did not look good enough as he kept losing the ball and despite his height he hardly won any balls in the air.
In the second half Blackpool went ahead in the 52nd minute and it wasn’t until then that we started playing. Jevons and Murry came on and we looked stronger. It was not until the 75th Minute when we were saved by Murry’s 2nd goal of the season which ended the game at 1-1 which IMO was a fair result. We stay at home to Scunthorpe next weekend in a game we need to win.
After the match we went back to the B&B to relax and take a shower before heading out to a few bars. Before we went out we found a Chinese restaurant which was ok but dead before moving to the Walkabout across the road. The nightlife in Blackpool is different and I found some of the places either too busy or empty. We met up with three guys who sit by us and I am glad we did as they were very funny and it gave me a chance to see what they were really like as my opinion of them at the City ground wasn’t great. But I am glad I could see a different side to them which will make me more talkative to them at matches. We ended in Reflex which I have always enjoyed in Bristol but the one in Blackpool was to say it nicely Shit! The night out in Blackpool was ok but I won’t be rushing back anytime soon.
We decided in the morning to drive home early to get back to Bristol to watch the two matches in the local.
