The World Cup has finally kicked off!

Posted by Martyn

Sorry I have not written anything for the past few days but I have been engrossed with the kick off of the 2006 World Cup in Germany. (For those of you who don’t know, it’s this little football tournament that happens every 4 years, where the best of the world teams battle it out until the end).

Anyhow, It all started on Friday when Germany Played Costa Rica at 5pm. As I had the day off I strolled up to my local for 4pm getting very hot and sweaty on the way. The pub wasn’t packed but there where a couple of people who I knew so I got a pint of Blackthorn in and joined them at the front table. After watching the opening celebrations my friends Mark and Matt turned up after just finishing work and we all enjoyed the first WC game which was a good match with a couple of great goals from Germany.

After the match loads of people left but I decided to stay and get some grub in until 8m when everyone returned to watch Ecuador beat Poland 2-0. The rest of the night wasn’t too bad but we did travel to the Sally for a pint and we bumped into a hyper as always Mel who had just sold off her top and was serving in hr bra.

Day 2

After getting up from a very hot night without a hangover I travelled up to the pub at 11:45 making it there by 12:15 and getting a seat right at the front. Back on the cider again I stocked up as the bar began to fill. Sarah painted an England flag on my right cheek but I did want my whole face painted with the flag. By 2pm kick off the pub was packed as we watched England beat Paraguay 1-0 from an own goal early on in the first half. It wasn’t a great match, England was ordinary in the first half and worse in the second but a win is a win and Paraguay did not look any better.

After the match we all went outside and drank and ate and played football. One of our friends who I have not seen in a while turned up with her sister and friend so we all chatted until 6 when my friend’s dad came to pick me up and take me to his x-wife’s house so I could join in their BBQ with Ryan who just turned 28.
Last night was a bit weird; I took the bed while Ryan and his wife Laura took the floor in the same room. It was very very hot and sticky and I could not sleep at all. So this morning I am so tired and I feel like I have no energy.

i was only saying keep the faith! because england havent got a hope in hell in winning the world cup! plus they have the easiest group ,and they still couldnt get a decent win over a crappy team! no chance whatsoever!

I think we have the team but I am a little worried about Sven's tactics. Paraguay are not a bad side but it just so happens that they played worse then us.

England will get better, it's best not to peek to early.

Germany have the easiest group.
